Having been in the repair business most of my life, I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I started in the bicycle business at the young age of 13 when I was approached by Jack Duncan (Heritage Bike Shoppe in Xenia Ohio) who had heard from a neighborhood employee of his that I may be a great addition to the team. You see, I had spent a sunny Saturday morning disassembling an engine powered mini-bike in our front yard. The employee who happened to live a few houses down was walking to work one day while I was tearing this broken machine apart. I found out later that he said to himself, “He will never get that thing back together”. By his lunch break, I was terrorizing the neighborhood with all that 5 horsepower and two wheels could deliver! I was gainfully employed by the owner of the shop the following week assembling and repairing Schwinn bicycles. It was at Heritage Bike that Jack taught me the basics of customer relations, honesty, and work ethics in general. I was taught that there is always work to do no matter how bad the weather might be. Windows need washed; floors need mopped, and trash needs taken out. Jack always kept us boys busy even when there were no sales to speak of. Christmas and summertime always kept us on our toes!

After moving to North Carolina a few years later, I found myself working for a rental company working on everything from floor sanders to stump grinders. Where I found the most enjoyment was not working on the rental equipment, but on lawnmowers and other small engine items that customers would bring in for repair. I decided after college, I might look at this as a possible career as I just didn’t want an ordinary desk job. I wanted to love my work and this was something I loved doing.

I soon found myself running a small engine shop for George Davis at the famed Stone Brothers and Byrd in downtown Durham. George gave me the freedom to run the shop however I saw fit. I have been a part of the Stone Brothers family for over 16 years now, and it will always be a home to me. It was George that gave me the opportunity to earn a good honest living, grow, and he even allowed me to make my own mistakes. It has been this growth that has allowed me to become who I am. I am forever indebted to George and all he has taught me. Heritage Saw & Mower works closely with Stone Brothers as we strive to provide continued service to our beloved and loyal patrons.

Having worked now for some pretty amazing folks, I have been able to see how businesses function and how industry can change over time.

As of 2021, we now have a physical location located at 115 Hoover Rd in Mebane NC! All lawnmower repair work can now be dropped off at our location if you so choose.
